Restart Mission—Live

Due to the Covid pandemic and associated stringent border-crossing policies, Crossing Borders (CB) mission trips had a 2 ½ year hiatus from our in-person mission trips into Mexico.

During that time, we worked hard to maintain communications and relationships with all our border ministry partners, and our donors helped supply infusions of much-needed financial help as our partners dealt with Covid illness and death, shut-down of their churches, family crises, reduced resources at the orphanages, recovery from a ferocious Spring storm, and more challenges.  Thank You to all the CB supporters!

In the summer of 2022, five of our experienced CB alumni went on a “re-scouting trip” across the border into Mexico to determine if it was time to restart the in-person trips.  Yes!  Conditions were good, so we scheduled our normal winter trip for this December.

We just completed an amazing trip with 17 missionaries in attendance.  There were teenagers, their parents, and other adults up into their 70s—truly cross-generational experience.  Our U.S. supporters supplied us with 550 shoebox gifts which we hand-distributed to lots of smiling children.  There were also “made with love” hand-made blankets, quilts, cloth tote bags and other items, along with some infant supplies that were given to moms and babies.

Our team was blessed to be able to present the Gospel message in various forms:  an original drama skit (in costume) of the Nativity events, seasonal songs, preaching the sermon message at church services, and lots of smiles and hugs.  Yes, there is somewhat of a language challenge, but God makes sure His message of love is shared and received as a blessing to all.

CB is always open to changes in reaching out, so this time we tried something new.  In advance of our trip, we sent some funds to a church pastor/partner, they bought a bunch of needed items for kids (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, other toiletries), and our CB team brought with us several big boxes full of toys, candy and other items.  The church members and our CB team spent one afternoon working together to pack up 150 gift bags.  The next day (Sunday) the church conducted a kids’ outreach and 150 children came, heard the Gospel, had lots of fun and took home a shiny gift bag full of love.

It was wonderful to see our ministry partners in person again, to hear about their challenges and accomplishments (and to see the growth happening), to play with the kids (they are growing up so fast), and to be an encouragement in the Lord to them—even as they are a great inspiration to our team.

Thanks again to all our CB supporters.  God willing, we plan to be back at the border this coming summer.  Check for details right here on our website.
